Why more people don’t farm.

A series.

Following a grain truck

This time of year in East Tn, its harvest time.

Our farmers are done with corn and have started harvesting soybeans.

Time is important. Crops have to be a certain amount of dryness (or a moisture percentage) for them to not spoil in the bins.

Time is also important when its just a couple farmers doing all the harvesting and they have other things to get done before winter sets in.

We understand time! We understand being in a hurry. We are usually in a hurry too.

But this year the amount of honking, flipping off, tailgating while weaving back and forth has sunk to a new low.

This week my husband was driving a loaded (heavy) grain truck. Keep in mind they take a while to get sped up, and also they take a while to stop.

At any rate he had just left a field when a fellow started the tailgating/weaving deal. Then he added in the finger…..and hanging out the window and shouting. (I can only imagine what he was shouting wasn’t “Good job farmer buddy!”)

Then the guy speeds around the grain truck, whips right in front of it and slams on his breaks….in front of the grain truck.

Y’all know better than to throw on your brakes right in front of a big heavy truck right?? Like you can get yourself AND the people in the big truck killed that way.

Lynn came home tonight and said it happened again today, different road, different mad guy.

My husband drives those trucks. So does his dad. My kids ride with them sometimes.

Moral of the story?

Take a deep breath and just chill out.

Extend a little patience towards others on the road.

It just might save your life! (And those of my loved ones)

It is a thing! Farming or not farming! Just ask Rachel about riding around Tampa with her Mom couple weeks ago! Rude and no one is paying attention to the road anymore!

This is so true and so very sad. What has happened to being patient and courteous? Praying that our public will have a change of heart not only on the road but in all things.
